Hay

Hay is a requirement for any operation to ensure the animals have a steady food supply through the winter months.  In some cases, hay is also needed through the summer in the event of extreme drought.

We made the decision in 2006 to bale our own hay.  Up to this point, we had been purchasing hay from local suppliers and this had become too cumbersome.  We were at the mercy of the suppliers and if they did not have the quantity of hay required, we had to look elsewhere.

Our first break came when a farm came available in Kingston, TN.  This farm had been used for hay for several years, and the person cutting the hay was unable to continue.  We were able to lease the property, and it has provided us with a good supply of hay each year.

Our second break came when a piece of property in Wartburg came available.  This piece of property had been used for a number of farming enterprises including soybeans, corn, millet, and most recently hay.  The gentleman who owns the property was unable to continue cutting it in addition to his other properties.  We were able to lease this property and it has provided us with a good supply of hay each year.

About Our Hay

Our hay is mixed grass and includes clover, fescue, orchard grass, and vetch.  All our hay is forage tested so we can provide the best quality nutrition to our animals.  Our forage tests have shown protein levels of 9-12 percent.

All our hay is baled in 4x5 rolls.  We use poly twine to tie our bales and each bale weighs approximately 800lbs.

We utilize soil tests on all our farms to determine fertilizer requirements so we do not over fertilize any piece of property.

We do have hay for sale.  Contact us for more information.
