Our  Cows

Our cowherd has been selected for their Angus influence and ability to produce a top quality calf.  We utilize Angus influenced genetics for their marbling ability.  Marbling is the process where fat is deposited in the muscle tissue.  This intra-muscular fat produces the flavor when cooking the beef products.  In addition to Angus genetics, we also utilize Limosuin, Simmental, and Gelbvieh influenced cattle.  These cattle have the ability to grow and add pounds of muscle on a good feeding program.  The combination of the Angus and the other breeds produces a product that has good muscle and quality marbling.

Our cows have one calf per year.  We utilize a 60 day recovery period before turning the bull out for re-breeding.  Any cow that does not produce or fails to re-breed is a candidate for removal from the herd.  We analyze the cow production and any factors which may have contributed to her failure to re-breed.  If the end analysis is not favorable, she is removed from the herd and sold.  All replacement animals must go through our health program to ensure we have healthy, happy animals.

We have freezer beef available. For more information and pricing you can go to our freezer beef page.  To place an order, go to our ordering page.

Our Bulls

We utilize Gelbvieh bulls in our breeding program.  These bulls have been selected for their ability to produce low birth weight calves.  This reduces stress on the cow herd.  Just as important is the ability of the bull to produce calves which grow and add muscle in a quick but healthy fashion.  To learn more about our bulls, select one below.

Our Health Program

We believe that healthy cattle produce better quality calves and are happier over the long run.  Our health program is tailored to ensure our cattle are healthy as well as providing a safe product for the consumer market.  All animals are antibiotic and implant free as we do not believe this is healthy for the animals or the consumers.

Our animals are vaccinated according to Beef Quality Assurance guidelines for a number of diseases which can affect cattle.  Beef Quality Assurance is a program which defines where and how vaccines should be given to prevent damage to the underlying muscle tissue.  The end result is a better product with minimal trimming due to defects in the meat from improper vaccination procedures.

In addition, our cattle are de-wormed twice a year using commercial de-wormer.  This limits internal and external parasites which can cause health problems in the cattle.  Any health problems in the cattle result in a lower quality product.  We strive to prevent the problems before they occur.

All incoming cattle are vaccinated and de-wormed before being placed in a holding area.  The new arrivals are observed for several days for any signs of distress or health problems.  After the quarantine period, they are turned out with the rest of the herd.
